Artist Reception & Book Signing
February 24 2016, 6 - 8 PM

Southern Comfort Gallery (SOCO Gallery) is pleased to host photographer Andrew Moore for a book signing of Dirt Meridian, published by Damiani and distributed by D.A.P.  Moore is a major force in contemporary photography, known for his large format photographs of landscapes and architecture in transition. This will be Moore’s first project with SOCO Gallery, located at 421 Providence Road in Charlotte, North Carolina. Limited copies of Dirt Meridian will be available for pre-order and purchase by contacting

From 2005 - 2014, Moore shot his series Dirt Meridian, which covers the areas west of the 100th meridian to the Rocky Mountains, from North Texas to Canada. This expansive area is also the most sparsely populated territory in the United States. Many of these photographs are aerial views taken from a single engine plane showing the vastness of the region, which are juxtaposed with intimate portraits of the residents, up close and unflinching. In addition to the multi-layered American narrative provided by Moore’s photographs, Dirt Meridian includes a preface by acclaimed novelist Kent Haruf and texts by writer Inara Verzemnieks and curator Toby Jurovics. Two of Moore’s large format photographs will also be on view in the gallery and available for purchase during the book signing.

Andrew Moore was born in Connecticut in 1957. His works are widely collected by private and public collections including the North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven; Library of Congress, Washington DC; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York; Cranbrook Art Museum, Detroit; High Museum, Atlanta among others. The artist currently lives and works in New York, New York.
